Following America’s Bicentennial celebration a preservation 'boom' was sparked. In Georgetown, a group of citizens who had worked diligently on Georgetown’s Bicentennial celebration also had a heightened awareness of historic resources at the local level. It was the vision of this group that led to the formation of the Georgetown Heritage Society in 1977.
Through its educational programs, preservation projects and tourism-related activities, the Georgetown Heritage Society endeavors to safeguard the unique architectural assets, natural resources and cultural traditions which set Georgetown apart. And in doing so, 'preserve the past for future generations'.
